Bangkok 2023 – Day 1

As mentioned in an earlier post, I was headed to Bangkok for my firm’s annual firm trip. We spent 3 days 2 nights there.

I was lucky enough to be assigned a ticket on Singapore Airlines (some were assigned a ticket on Scoot which is a budget airline) and we all stayed at the Shangri-La Bangkok.

I had a super early flight – 7 am – which meant I was at the airport at 4 am hahaha. I didn’t bring much, just my Pacsafe crossbody bag and my Level8 Road Runner carry on suitcase.

The flight was uneventful and after a 45 min coach ride we were at our hotel. Thankfully, our room was ready (I shared a room with 2 of my friends from work), so we went up to freshen up and to leave our bags.

The view from the room was nice – we were looking out onto the Chao Phraya River.

While our hotel is not in the central shopping area, there is a BTS station nearby (about 5 mins walk).

After freshening up, my friend J and I headed out. Our first spot was Siam Paragon. My friend wanted to check out the supermarket there as well as the food stores. I didn’t really have anything I wanted to get in Bangkok except for a pin from the Hard Rock Cafe and some snacks for my sis.

After Siam Paragon, we walked over to the Hard Rock Shop and I got my pin. I usually get the city pin as it is the one that’s unique to that particular store.

From there we headed over to main Big C. This is where I managed to get the snacks my sis wanted.

She wanted some Tom Yum flavoured cashew nuts and some banana cake/bread. While we were there we bumped into another friend of ours – J2 and so three of us headed back to the hotel with all our shopping.

After dropping off our shopping, we headed to a nearby department store – Robinson – to do more shopping hahaha. We also grabbed a late lunch/early dinner at a little Japanese restaurant. The food was yummy and cheaper. We were all super hungry as we hadn’t really had lunch, just snacks and it was like 4 plus in the afternoon. Unfortunately I was too hungry to remember to take a pic so you’ll have to take my word for it.

We headed back to the hotel after that. We took a slow stroll back so that we could check out the stores along the way to the hotel. We still had time before we had to start getting ready for our dinner & dance.

I ended up not going for the dinner & dance as my friend J was not feeling well. She actually hadn’t been feeling well for most of the day, we think it was something she had on the plane – we had different meals. She said it wasn’t too bad while we were out but after sitting down and waiting for me and A (our other roommate) to get ready, she started to feel really tired. I didn’t want her to be on her own so I kept her company in the room.

The night view from our room is really nice!
